PTA Events  Please Note - The F.U.D.G.E Dance is scheduled for April 14. 2018

Dear parents and guardians,

I would like to take a moment to thank all of you for your continued support and to offer you more information about our PTA fundraisers and events. The following is a short overview of all PTA events happening this year at P.S.30. Please ALWAYS feel free to email or call using the above contact information or stop by the PTA office any Tuesday or Thursday morning for more information. Other days and times can easily be arranged by appointment.

  • Fundraisers - the follow items are the PTA’s sources of income used to support our events.
    • Candy sale - we will have one Candy Sale this year. It is one of our main fundraisers. Please consider participating in this fundraiser. Any amount is extremely helpful. The sale ends on October 13th.
    • Square1 Art - is a new fundraisers started last year. Each child creates a piece of artwork. You will then have an opportunity to buy items which showcase your child’s art. We hope to repeat last year’s success.
    • Clothing Drive - we try to conduct 3-4 clothing drives a year. Usually on Fridays. The first is scheduled for October 13th. Simply drop off any unwanted, clothing, toys or household items to the Wardwell schoolyard on planned days and the PTA receives 20¢a pound for all items collected. Volunteers are always needed to help load the truck.
    • Holiday Fair - is another one of our main fundraisers. It’s always the week after Thanksgiving. The fair is open to students and families Wednesday and Thursday but volunteers are needed all week. We do not use vendors. All stations are completely staffed by P.S.30 families. Tables include crafts, novelties, face painting, white elephant, games, sand art, books, baskets etc. Many volunteers are needed. Quite a few of our tables are in need of people to run them this year. Please contact the PTA for more information.
    • Book Fair - Our book fair is always scheduled during the week of  winter parent teacher conferences. Families are welcome to come in and purchase books with their students at their scheduled time during the school day. Our school earns Scholastic Bucks.
    • Spring Fling - is our biggest fundraiser of the year! It is scheduled for the evening of March 24 at Zion Lutheran Church. It is an evening of fun, laughs and prize baskets. Volunteers are needed before and during the event. This fundraiser sells out quickly!
    • Monthly Fundraiser - we try to offer outside fundraisers each month as a small source of additional income. Some scheduled fundraisers include Modell’s Sporting Goods, N.Y. Jets, Pampered Chef and local restaurants. We are always open to and appreciative of new ideas.
    • Family Donation - Each year we ask for a voluntary $10 donation per family. This donation greatly offsets the price of our many events throughout the year. Please note that any amount is greatly appreciated. If you haven’t already sent your donation in we will happily accept it at anytime.
  • Events - the follows items are events that do not provide any income for the PTA or our school
    • Harvest Day - is always celebrated on the Friday before Halloween. This event normally takes place in the Wardwell schoolyard but due to construction it has been temporarily moved to Westerliegh Park. Students will walk down to the park as a class during their scheduled time and will enjoy a trick or treat hay maze, a pumpkin patch from which each child will get to pick their own pumpkin, games, a DJ, dancing and tons of fun. This year’s theme is Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Class parents are asked to provide one prop that matches the theme per class. These props will be used at the event. ALL families are welcome to create a prop. Each will be very helpful in filling the larger space we are using this year. Please contact the PTA with any ideas or questions. This event is only open to students and volunteers. There is no cost to families for this event.
    • G.A.M.E - stands for Grandmother, Aunt, Mom etc. It is our version of a Mother / Son brunch. Realizing that each family is different we invite boys and 1 special female adult to share a sports themed afternoon of fun. This year’s event is scheduled at the Staaten on February 10th. There is a per person charge for this event. Invitations with the complete information will be backpacked home before the brunch.
    • F.U.D.G.E - stands for Father, Uncle, Dad, Grandfather, etc and is our version of a Father / Daughter dance. Again realizing that each family is unique we invite girls with 1 special male adult to share a semi-formal afternoon at the Hilton Garden Inn. This year’s dance is scheduled for April 14th. There is a per person cost for this fun afternoon. Invitation with all information will proceed the event.
    • Plant Day - On the Friday before Mother’s Day the PTA provides a potted plant to each student so they can present it to a special mother figure in their lives. There is no cost to families for this event.
    • Gift Day - During the week before Father’s Day each student will receive a small gift, such as a pen to present to a special father figure in their lives. This is a new event which began last year. There is no cost to families for this event.
    • Teacher Appreciation Breakfast - Each year on Teacher Appreciation Day we provide a luncheon in the nearby VFW hall for the teachers and staff of P.S.30 to thank them for all they do for our children throughout the year.
    • 5th Grade Field Day is usually planned for the end of May. It is a special event for invited 5th grade students and parents or guardians. The event takes place in Nansen’s park and is scheduled for May 23rd this year.  Guest enjoy fun, games and lunch. There is a per person cost for this event.
    • Carnival - is always the first Friday in June with a rain date of the second Friday. Carnival is a great day of blow up rides, truck rides, games, snacks and lots of fun in Westerliegh Park. Students will walk down as a class at their scheduled times. This event is only open to students and volunteers. There is no cost to families for this event.
    • 5th Grade Celebration Dance - This is a special evening for invited 5th graders including a buffet and DJ. This years dance will take place at the Staaten on June 9th. This event is for students only. There is a per person fee that will be included on the invitation.
    • PTA assemblies- The PTA provides all students with 2 in school assemblies featuring entertainment from outside companies. One show is scheduled before winter break. The other is scheduled before the end of the school year. These shows are open to students only.

Please join us at our monthly PTA meetings and check the PTA homepage on the school website for continuous updates on all school events.

*Please remember that ALL parents and guardians are automatically part of the PTA. The executive board has been voted in to oversee events, establish an order of operations and insure that Chancellor's regulations are followed but the PTA is a team made up of each of us and we gladly welcome the help and ideas of all our teammates.*

We are looking forward to a great year!

Sincerely,

Melissa Guercia, PTA President

and The PTA Executive Board
