    If your child has art with Mrs. Contreras, their art work is on display for all to see from today through December 30th at the SI Children's Museum at Snug Harbor. If you would like to visit , there is free admission just to view the art, otherwise you can visit the entire museum with the museum admission. The museum is located at

The Mission of PS 30 is to provide each student with a rich education in a supportive environment. We are committed to providing our students with the skills they need to be successful academically, to help them become good citizens, and to ensure that they are college and career ready. PS 30 Westerleigh is committed to providing all students with an educational atmosphere that provides equity and excellence and a rich learning environment by ensuring that all students have access to the supports, enrichment, and interventions that they will need to succeed and become college and career ready.
We do this by giving our students the opportunity to succeed through an engaging curriculum, as well as, diverse enrichment opportunities, utilizing our community resources, and engaging our parent community. This allows our school community to have a shared vision of equity and excellence in conjunction with high expectations for all learners.

Construction updates

1.  Construction on the building has begun.  New bridging was recently put up and then scaffolding will be put up.

2. Due to ongoing construction on the roof we will continue to have scaffolding around the building for the foreseeable future. This will affect arrival and dismissal for some students. The following changes will be in place until further notice.
      A.  In the morning the 4th and 5th grade students will enter the building and go to the cafeteria
      B. 1st grade and 2nd grade will be dismissed from the Wardwell school yard.
      C. 3rd grade will be dismissed from exit 12 which is next to the Wardwell schoolyard.
      D. Pre-k, Kindergarten, 4th and 5th grade dismissal is unaffected.
      E. The playground on Fiske Avenue will be closed until the repairs are complete

5th Grade Parents and Guardians - application deadline extended.

We want to be sure that families and schools have enough time to complete their applications and have them submitted into the system.

We have extended the deadline for families to complete middle school applications.  The NEW deadline is December 14th.

Incoming Kindergarten Application Period ( children born in 2014 )

Kindergarten Application Period:

The kindergarten application period launches the week of December 3, and closes January 14.

All children born in 2014 who live in New York City are eligible to apply for kindergarten placement in the 2019–20 school year.

Families can submit the application via MySchools.nyc, over the phone at 718-935-2009, or in-person at a Family Welcome Center.

Family Welcome Center is located at : 715 Ocean Terrace ( Petrides Complex) Building A     Mon to Fri 8 am to 3pm.

Current Pre K children need to apply for seats as well.

 

Holiday Fair

Hi Parents and Guardians:

The PTA Holiday Fair could use your help!

Today ( Monday Nov. 26th) and tomorrow (Tuesday Nov 27th) the Volunteers are setting up our gym for the Holiday Fair. If you can help set up between the hours of 8 am and 2 pm we will be happy to have you. Please go to the PS 30 PTA webpage and click on the link for the Holiday Fair.

Also if you can volunteer to work the Holiday Fair ( Weds 8 - 2 pm,  Thurs 8 am - 2 pm, and 6 - 8 pm)Please sign up via the link as well.

We welcome Moms and Dads!

Lastly we are asking for donations of bottled water as well as baked goods (individually wrapped if possible) these donations can be dropped to the main lobby either Weds. or Thurs.

5th Grade Parents and Guardians

Letters have been mailed to your home with your access code to submit your child's online application for middle school.

The Deadline to submit applications is December 3rd.

If you did not receive your letter, please contact Mrs. Reich at 718 442 0462 extension 2280 or email: jreich3@schools.nyc.gov

There are NO EXCEPTIONS to the deadline and every 5th grade student must submit their choices on the application.
